Mission Snowsports Goes Thin Client with Retail-1

Point-of-Sale now runs from a head office server at Mission Snowsports Ltd. This specialty retailer chose a thin client real-time network architecture for implementation of GSI’s integrated Retail-1 Suite to reduce overall system support costs and increase control by concentrating all applications and data at the head office server level.

“Our decision was taken with two factors in mind. First was the level of confidence in our network security and availability. Our service level agreement calls for a commitment of availability in excess of 99%. Second, was to focus our techno-savvy associates on using technology to support of store sales. Our thin client implementation eliminates the possibility of installing personal applications or engaging in personal internet surfing”, said Matt Singer.

Mission Snowsports Ltd is an eight store chain based in Calgary, Alberta specializing in all the major brands in snowboards, snow apparel, and accessories. In “off-season”, the chain features BMX bikes, skateboards and other extreme sports equipment as well as apparel and accessories.

Full implementation was achieved in 14 weeks. With a short implementation window, Mission Snowsports Ltd completed a conversion to GSI’s Retail-1 in record time… and plenty of time for a roll-out of two new stores prior to the winter sports selling season. “With GSI’s implementation team we were able to successfully complete our conversion from our old system to Retail-1 in record time. We are delighted with the results. The implementation was completed in August which gives us sufficient operational experience with Retail-1 before starting our peak selling season” said Matt Singer, President of Mission Snowsports Ltd.

Application sets included Retail-1 Merchant for head office merchandise and inventory management, purchasing and distribution, store and employee management as well as customer relationship management systems. To manage markdowns more effectively, Mission Snowsports head office is an early implementation site for GSI’s newest business intelligence (BI) software… Retail-1 Red Line.

Retail-1 Store encompassed POS functions as well as store operations including store inventory, employee scheduling and time clock, and customer service capabilities. Included in the store rollout was GSI’s integrated debit-credit card support and GSI’s exclusive GemX gift card capabilities.
